The brand’s first location outside Texas marks a key milestone in its national expansion and brings its specialized textured-hair care model to the East Coast.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Pressed Roots, the first silk blowout bar of its kind offering elevated salon experiences specifically designed for textured hair, today announced plans to open its first East Coast salon in Washington, D.C. Located at 1325 5th Street NE, Suite C, the new salon is expected to open in early December and will mark the company’s fifth corporate location and first outside Texas.
Founded by Piersten Gaines, Pressed Roots was created in response to a longstanding gap in the salon industry: the difficulty of finding reliable, formally trained stylists equipped to care for textured hair. The brand specializes in silk blowouts, combining textured-hair expertise, healthy-hair care and premium hospitality through its proprietary Pressed Roots Method, a training and service system designed to create a consistent standard of care across stylists and salons.
“When I started Pressed Roots, the goal was to make it easier for women with textured hair to know they could walk into a salon and receive the same level of expertise, care and consistency every time,” said Piersten Gaines, Founder and CEO of Pressed Roots. “Bringing that experience to the East Coast is an important step toward making that vision available to more women nationwide. D.C. represents an exciting new chapter for Pressed Roots, and I’m incredibly proud of what our team has built to get us here and what this next phase of growth will make possible.”
The D.C. salon will offer Pressed Roots’ Signature Silk Blowout, available in a range of finishes, alongside trims, detoxifying and deep-conditioning treatments and other add-on services. Every stylist will complete a structured curriculum in the Pressed Roots Method, spanning consultation, hair health, technique, service execution and hospitality, before becoming certified to work with clients. Bringing that training infrastructure to the East Coast will also create new opportunities for licensed beauty professionals in the DMV to build specialized expertise in textured hair.
The expansion is expected to grow the Pressed Roots team by 50% and marks the beginning of the company’s next phase of national growth. Pressed Roots has raised a total of $6 million in funding to date, with its latest capital supporting the D.C. opening and continued expansion of its corporate and franchise footprint.
Corporate salons will remain core to Pressed Roots’ growth strategy, with the DMV and broader Mid-Atlantic among its priority regions for future company-owned expansion. Alongside its corporate growth, Pressed Roots established its franchise program in 2025 and expects its first franchised salons to open in 2027, creating an additional path to bring its model of reliable, elevated textured-hair care to more communities nationwide.
Since opening its first permanent salon in Dallas in 2020, Pressed Roots has grown revenue more than 20x and expanded to four profitable locations across Texas. As demand grew, the company expanded its original Dallas salon by an additional 1,500 square feet in 2023 to accommodate more guests. Its Houston salon, which opened in 2024 as the brand’s first location outside Dallas-Fort Worth, reached profitability within its first year, demonstrating the brand’s ability to successfully enter and scale in new markets. Pressed Roots is also on track to surpass 150,000 services by the end of 2026, while continuing to earn five-star reviews from clients across its growing salon footprint.
About Pressed Roots
Pressed Roots is the first silk blowout bar of its kind, offering elevated salon experiences specifically designed for textured hair. Founded by Columbia University and Harvard Business School graduate Piersten Gaines, Pressed Roots was born from her firsthand experience with the challenges of finding reliable, formally trained stylists equipped to care for textured hair. After validating the concept through sold-out pop-ups in Boston, Atlanta and Dallas, Gaines opened the first permanent salon in Dallas in 2020. At the heart of the brand is the proprietary Pressed Roots Method, a standardized training and service system that equips stylists with specialized textured-hair expertise and creates a consistent standard of care across every salon. By combining healthy-hair care, premium hospitality and a specialization in silk blowouts, Pressed Roots delivers a consistent, efficient experience tailored to each client’s individual hair needs.
