New research hub tracks how U.S. employers design and fund their health plans, by industry and state
SOUTH ORANGE, NJ, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Bnchmrk, an independent employee benefits benchmarking platform, has launched Benchmark Stats, a research hub at bnchmrk.com/stats that publishes key findings from its verified employer plan data. The hub tracks how employers across the U.S. design and fund their health benefits. It is refreshed monthly and available for HR leaders, benefits advisors, and journalists to reference and cite.
Unlike survey-based benchmarks, Bnchmrk’s data comes from employers’ actual plan documents. Benchmark Stats draws on that dataset to show market-wide trends nationally, across 60+ industries, and for all 50 states and D.C.
“The benefits industry runs on a lot of survey data and assumptions,” said Andrew Kimmel, Founder & CEO of Bnchmrk. “We’ve spent years building a dataset based on real plan documents, and Benchmark Stats is a way to share what that data shows about the market. It’s the big picture. Our clients use the platform to see exactly how their plans compare.”
Key findings from the current data:
• PPOs remain the most common medical plan, offered by 41% of employers, followed by HDHPs at 35%.
• Accounting and tax firms lead all industries in HDHP adoption at 44%.
• Ohio leads all states, with 47% of employers offering an HDHP.
• The hub also tracks how employers fund their plans (fully insured, self-funded, and level-funded) and how many plan options they offer employees.
Proprietary data, available to media on request
Benchmark Stats shows how common plan designs are. Separately, Bnchmrk’s proprietary dataset tracks premiums and employee contributions by plan type and coverage tier, including plans already set for 2027. These cost figures are not published on Benchmark Stats. As a sample, the median retail employee pays about $11,379 a year for family PPO coverage, 42% more than the median tech employee ($8,031), even though the retail plan’s full premium is lower. Journalists can request data on specific industries, states, and employer sizes at press@bnchmrk.com.
