Nourish, the country’s largest dietitian-led metabolic health clinic, today announced results from two new real-world studies presented at the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE). Among Nourish patients with hypertension and those with dyslipidemia, care led by a registered dietitian was associated with improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol at 90 days. These results add to the evidence that dietitian-led metabolic care is a scalable way to address heart health.
Key findings
- For patients with hypertension: Average systolic blood pressure dropped from 130.6 to 125.6 mmHg, out of the range of Stage 1 hypertension, at 90 days of Nourish care.
- For patients with dyslipidemia: Average LDL cholesterol dropped from 136.0 to 121.5 mg/dL, moving into near-optimal range, at 90 days of Nourish care. Triglycerides fell from 162.0 to 135.4 mg/dL, into the normal range.
Both hypertension and high cholesterol affect nearly half of U.S. adults and are leading risk factors for cardiovascular disease, making heart health a major focus for health plans, employers, and health systems alike. Improvement in these outcomes requires sustained behavior change, but few people get the personalized clinical support they need to make that a reality.
Nourish provides this support by pairing one-on-one nutrition therapy from a registered dietitian with AI-powered touchpoints between visits, through a care model designed to drive behavior change and improve outcomes. For higher-acuity patients, Nourish also offers integrated medication management, behavioral health services, labs, and more.
Both studies presented by the Nourish clinical research team at FNCE focused on patients managing hypertension or dyslipidemia alongside other metabolic complexities, consistent with the broader Nourish population. In the hypertension study, more than one in four patients also had high cholesterol and nearly one in ten also had diabetes; in the dyslipidemia study, roughly one in eight patients also had diabetes. Average BMI was in the obesity range in both cohorts (35.9 and 33.1, respectively).
“Behavior change is central to managing heart health conditions like hypertension and high cholesterol, yet patients rarely get the sustained clinical support they need to make it happen,” said Dr. Ajay Haryani, Chief Medical Officer at Nourish. “We’re excited that these newly presented outcomes help show what is possible with a registered dietitian as the entry point to care, and a broader team available to patients when necessary.”
