Paralign Health has announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind provider network in Missouri that helps local fire departments and ambulance districts partner with health insurance plans to support patients at home through specially trained community paramedics. This care model is often referred to as Mobile Integrated Health–Community Paramedicine.
Paralign’s network brings together local fire departments and ambulance districts across Missouri to support patients who face barriers to accessing traditional healthcare services, including transportation challenges, geographic isolation, and chronic health needs.
“Ambulance districts see every day how difficult it can be for some patients to access care,” said Will Railsback, Director of Caldwell County Ambulance District. “Community paramedicine allows us to reach people earlier, in their homes, before a situation becomes an emergency. Formal partnerships with health insurance plans are an important step in making sure this work can continue and grow.”
While community paramedicine is already helping fire departments and ambulance districts support patients outside of emergency settings, many programs have lacked a path to long-term sustainable funding. Paralign enables local fire departments and ambulance districts to partner with health plans to scale their preventative care services, supporting contracting, technology, billing, reporting, and network operations so that local agencies can focus on delivering care in their communities.
“Fire departments, ambulance districts, and their community paramedics have been leading this work in their communities for years,” said Aaron Molloy, Co-founder and CEO of Paralign Health. “Paralign’s role is to build the infrastructure that allows those trusted local providers to partner with health plans in a coordinated, sustainable way.”
Healthy Blue of Missouri is the first health insurance plan to partner with the network. Under the agreement, community paramedics across eleven participating fire departments and ambulance districts in Missouri are now providing in-home services to Healthy Blue of Missouri members, identifying emerging needs, supporting care plans, and connecting patients with needed medical and community resources.
“At Healthy Blue, we are committed to helping ensure that all of our members can access the care they need, when and where they need it,” said Jeff Davis, President of the Healthy Blue Medicaid plan in Missouri. “Our work with Paralign and its network of local fire departments and ambulance districts provides a great way to meet our members where they are, strengthen connections with local providers, and support better coordination of care across the state.”
Paralign expects the Missouri launch to serve as a blueprint for future expansion as the company works with health plans, fire departments, and ambulance districts across the country.
